This is a self-portrait, representing the cold,
numbing feeling I went through during a
winter in California. Missing the snow and
cold winters I was used to back in Korea, the
sunny California winter made me feel
extremely nostalgic and reminiscent of the
winter memories I hold close to my heart.

This artwork is inspired by the Ukrainian
War. As conflicts still rise, it is hard to
imagine just how unreal the situation must
be living in countries under conflict.
Within the artwork, the child is within the
rubble of one of the cities that was bombed.
I decided to use rocks and artificial sand to
replicate the texture of the actual scene and
spelled out IMAGINE encouraging the
audience to take a step back and imagine
being in the scenario.

Finding your identity is a journey. This
artwork represents my journey in taking on
different masks to discover my own identity.
The various masks represent influences on
various social media and the audience at the
bottom represents the peers around me.

Inspired by my experience in getting double-
eyelid surgery, this artwork reflects how I felt
in my face being measured and calculated
during the time.

Inspired by my experience teaching
neurodivergent adults, this artwork depicts
one of the participants, Michael, whom I
worked with. While working with Michael, I
always wonder what exactly goes on in his
head. His internal thoughts, emotions, and
processes are some of the things I begin to
question as I work through math problems
with him.
Within the artwork, there are various
individuals surrounding Michael. The
bubbles that stem off of these individuals
represent some of the thoughts people
around him might have, judging his actions
and expressions. The cat shown on the
bottom right represent the coloring
characters shown on the art therapy math
workbooks Michael and I go through. I
decided to paste orange and red wiring to
symbolize the complexity of Michael’s
feelings and abilities.

The relationship between a mother and their
child is unlike anything else. Inspired by my
experience at Rainbow Family Ministry
where they house single mothers and their
child for 12 months for reentry into society, I
got to witness just how powerful a mother’s
love is for their child.
Within the artwork, I wanted to portray the
beauty of a mother’s love by using bright
and vibrant colors. The color green shown
through the mother’s clothes represent
nurturing aspects (symbolizing nature), and
the color pink shown through the child’s
clothes represent innocence.

Series: Hands and Instruments
These are the hands of the celloist in our
school orchestra. The work focuses on the
wide spread within the fingers of the
celloist’s hands, allowing the player to create
deep sounds against the bow and string as
well as the vibrato created from the fingering
of the left hand.

These are the hands of the drummer in our
school band. The overall piece focuses on
mimicking distorted and wild movements of
the hand while playing the drums. This is
shown through the hazy and faded vibe and
the dynamic depth created from the hands to
the body.

school band. The artwork focuses on chaotic
movement of the hands while playing a solo
on the electric guitar.

These are the hands of the violinist of our
school orchestra. This artwork focuses on
the delicate cradle of the violin, creating
vibrant, rich sounds. Then floating hand
represents the hand of the conductor,
guiding the violinist along with the rest of the
orchestra.
